Ethics or Protection? .
The game BioShock was said to have taken close to a decade to make, because of all of the small details that were put into the game. This is evident after the first two minutes of play, the graphics are amazing and the attention to detail on sizing and color are impeccable. The things that I think are missed by most gamers is the history and ethics that the game tries to depict, and it does a very good job if you are paying attention by reading the walls and listening to the audio diaries. It is clearly evident that there are problems in the Rapture society but does this society represent something more in our society?
The people in Rapture were given no rules and no guidelines to live by, they were only told to make their own perfect society with no rules. "No gods or kings. Only Man". The way that the society changed to in Rapture is undesirable for most people. This society has turned for the worst and the people that though that they were finally going to get a society where they were free from oppression of a ruler or a society were ultimately doomed from the medical ethics that were allowed because of the lack of rules in the society. The rules that we have in place in our society aren’t there to inhibit people in the medical field from reaching their full potential, which it may be doing, but rather protect the society and from harm.
Society today is a fairly well preserved today and the way that people are limited to certain rules and ethics binding them from research is there to protect the world and us. The world could be a much different place with a lack of rules and ethics, more devastating warfare could have happened and many negative aspects of human interaction could be present, while many new and exciting things could also be present and moving our society forward. The fact is that people are always on a struggle for power and will take it given the chance as seen through every society throughout time (feel free to read my paper based on this from the short story the cartographer wasps and anarchist bees in one of the tabs above). In the paper it shows the nature of humans and their desire for power and lack of respect and ethics for others and what it may cause. People are animals too and have a desire for power and have a biological instinct to be the best out there and those who don’t are lost due to evolution of the weaker animals being overpowers by the stronger ones.
Medical ethics are something that is very important to the proper growth of any society that is ever changing. As seen in the game the medical field was able to create something extraordinary, the powers of ADAM and EVE to give people the ability to do things that we could not even fathom, but at what point is the extent of science more important than the sanctity of family, friends, and civil rights?

A Saying In Medicine .
This is a picture of the floor in the Medical Pavilion of a common saying in medical practice. The act of making sure that no harm is done to the patient no matter what the circumstances are. In the game it is apparent that J.S. Steinman forgot what these morals were even though he most likely was the one to sign his name to the saying (probably in blood). The reason that I posted this here is that this is a simple saying that most doctors will respect and follow, but greed and insanity may alter it. The ethics in this 5-word saying should be held to heart when someone is practicing medicine for the safety and integrity of individuals and their societies.
The Hidden Ideals
The game BioShock is not just a very well made video game with great graphics and motion it is more, it is a not only a story, but a book. In this there are many chapters and lessons to be learned if you use uses senses, touch, sound, and sight. The lesson of ethics in this book is the most notable to my thought. The way that there are so many different ways to experience the effects of the ethical dilemmas in the game are better than a book. The game gives you the option to harvest little sisters for their power, or save them and get * the better of the three endings where the little sisters that you save come in the end and save you and in the end you raise them on your own and have a family, the five daughters are by your side at while your on your death bed. * There are also many small parts whit audio books that show how everyone in Rapture was affected that are often overlooked by people playing the game. There are places that were made for the upper class and in the room you can clearly see a canister with a skull and cross bones on it on the table signifying that people took their own lives and that the upper class was not safe from the struggle of the society. In the audio books in the levels there are speakers talking about how they saw the world they were in and how it was being severely impacted in all aspects. The game is different for every person because odds are that someone playing will miss multiple of the audio books, art work on the walls, and the small seeming harmless things like the news paper headlines. Some one might see the game as more of a game of choice * because you find out that you are under mind control majority of the game* and others might see the political aspects, but as a whole the game revolves on the principle ethics and morals that one person can choose to follow or fight.
