Dr. Steinman
Dr. Steinman is one of the most interesting characters in the whole game, not just because of his crazy antics in the game but rather what he represents outside of the game. J.S. Steinman was a thought to be a normal doctor before he went to Rapture. Steinman's background puts him as a plastic surgeon that graduated from college, Benjamin Church Medical College, he practiced medicine for a while before getting the offer to go to Rapture where he could fully express his "art" in plastic surgery. When the doctor was given the option to go to Rapture to work on what ever he wanted and allowed to practice any sort of medicine with no drawbacks he took his opportunities that did lead to drawbacks. Steinman is most notable for creating the splicers in Rapture by coaxing them by offering them ADAM if they allowed Dr. Steinman to perform on them or he purchased rouge splicers to operate on for his "art". J.S. Steinman thought of himself as an artist more than a plastic surgeon when he moved to Rapture and started moving away from his ethical morals and responsibilities. As a consequence, the people that were operated on only got worse as they aged, only if they lived, they were becoming deformed and mutilated, so they all wear masks because they "spliced" too much. The problem was not only the ADAM but rather how Dr. Steinman went insane while living in Rapture, he thought why should people be limited to only two arms and two legs, why can they have more or less (Symmetry Audio book below). As herd in the audio book below Dr. Steinman is speaking of how he believes that the human body should not be restricted to just four limbs. As a way of reasoning with what he wanted to do to people he thought if Picasso can do something with a brush then why cant I do it with a knife? (audio book link below) Playing through the game it is disturbing if you look at all of the bodies around the game and all of the blood that is a result of Steinman's work and ethics, its hard to imagine this in our society, but this could be a result of no ethics and authority. Doctors should be finding new and improved methods and revolutionizing the way that the world works but the consequences can be devastating. The way that Steinman abuses his power poses the question, how important are ethics in Medicine?
* To defeat him easily use the elctro bolt and telekinesis to throw things at him. Also hacking the health machine will poison him as he tries to heal himself. The best way to kill him is to use the inferno plasmid and get him while he's in the oil and watch him char. *

"...you'll be needing Dr. Steinman's key. He's the one what runs this place. But I don't expect him to hand it to you out of the milk of human kindness. Steinman ain't that kind, and frankly, I'm not even sure he's still human."―Atlas
Dr. Steinman is not the only character in the game that represents the evil of having a society with no rules or ethics, but he is a very open character that depicts the worst, a person with knowledge and no one to stop him. The game is very good at showing what is very possible of happening in a society that has endless possibilities. I highly recommend playing the game or researching the game at BioShock Wiki (link below) and seeing a perspective of what many game creators believe that a society will change into if there are no rules or ethics, because they are the ones who are allowed to make a world in which this happens. The game creators are free to create what ever they want and make a virtual world and make it any way they want.
My two cents:
It would be interesting if a company made a world where people were freely allowed to make a character and interact with no rules and see where the society ended up heading. Hopefully the society would be more pleasant than what Dr. Steinman creates and turn the human race into; I hope there is still hope in that society.
