Medical Ethics
Who gets to decide what is ethical and what is not ethical? In todays society there are rules set in place for people who practice medicine so they can not breach what society believes is ethical or not. These laws are set so that medical personnel whether they are licensed or not cannot use false information to practice on patients and so they cant use possibly hazardous procedures that may result in a fatality. It is clear that with our society that having rules and laws set in place it has inhibited the medical field from reaching its goals as fast as possible, but it is helping patients be protected from malpractice. Ethics are an important aspect that needs to be followed, but who gets to draw the line for ethics. Who is to say what is ethical and what is not? What might happen to our society if there were no ethics?
Ethics is no light matter for someone just to overlook. In different societies there are many different ideals in what is ethical and not ethical, and neither side is right or wrong. To put this idea in perspective take the example of food and think of what is ethical to eat and what is not ethical to eat. I’m assuming that most readers will agree that cow is a very normal thing to eat, while if someone were Hindu they would think of this as unethical because cows are a sacred animal. The same as what is ethical and unethical in different cultures varies too. Having set rules of what is ethical and what is not is hard enough with the difference in cultures but as technology gets better and more diverse the rules of ethics are also changing. As the dictionary.com references it ethics is a set of moral principles in a culture. Where do theses principals originate? Who gets to define them? Why are they right?
